How to place a biologic corneal bandage device on the ocular surface
Bio-Tissue
PROKERA Slim
Yes, really! We love these challenges!
Amniotic membrane has an amazing ability to reduce inflammation and promote regenerative healing of the cornea and ocular surfaces. Bio-Tissue sought a minimally intrusive, comfortable and reliable way to retain the thin lubricious membrane upon moving eyeballs - for up to 29 days.
Bio-Tissue provided a critical understanding of eye anatomy and observations of patient use. We derived unavailable anatomical geometry by optically scaling suspended banked eyeballs. Insightful deductions were modeled, prototyped and user tested (including personal fitting trials).
A low-profile conformable polymer ring is sheathed with amniotic membrane and retained by an innovative custom silicone micro-band. Our design of unique sterilizable manufacturing fixtures assures precise assembly.
BioTissue / PROKERA Slim
PROKERA SLIM is a minimally intrusive and comfortable to wear amniotic corneal bandage that moves with the eye and securely retains wound healing regenerative amniotic membrane over maximal ocular surface area.
An acquired understanding of critical anatomy, as well as, eye contour analysis using suspended banked eyeballs, patient observations, deductive CAD modeling and extensive prototype fittings (including personal trials) - led us to design an effective low profile conformable ring utilizing innovative elastomeric micro-band retention and reliable fixtures for quality assured assembly.
FactorsNY also created PROKERA graphics, packaging, and package inserts.
A cryogenically freezable package with a peel off foil cover serves as a dispensing tray. A snap-fit removable retainer protectively cradles the implant submerged in solution. Tray indentations facilitate saline rinse and ease of implant removal with gloved fingers.
