A month in advance of receiving first 'Alpha' prototypes, ProteoWise looked to FactorsNY for creative support toward a complimentary collaborative effort to expedite embodiment of next gen 'Beta' prototypes - including human factors, Industrial design appeal, reduced size, system integration, and fluidics management.
As Ancera's technical team selected electro-mechanical-fluidics components, FactorsNY quickly fabricated mockups with which to visualize and assess alternatively juxtaposed configurations. This dynamic hands-on approach effectively expedited optimal strategic definition of such critical system relationships as user interface, mechanical movements, cooling, interconnected electronics, etc...
System Configuration
Manipulation of component block mockups enabled expedient physical assessment of alternatively juxtaposed components.
Image faced blocks made it easy to visualize optimal component placement relative to interconnections, cooling/airflow and fixations. An integral raised worksurface eased pipetting of micro- samples into cartridges. Visionary sketches were initiated over emerging component configuration studies.
Interdisciplinary Inputs
Team reviews led to down selection of preferred directions. Physical games-playing of sequenced user interface verified a unanimously preferred configuration for ongoing development.
Visionary Appearance
The overall form, features, proportion and styling was evolved through photorealistic renderings superimposed upon the emerging internal assemblies.
Dynamic Interface
Compact configuration was achievable through detailing of dynamically interfaced movements, including: liftable armrest encasing an arrayed sipper tube manifold, a slidably retractable smoked glass service cover, an easily interfaced carousel, rotationally molded replenishable water/waste & reagent cassettes, cartridge aperture/dock/lift mechanisms.
Design is in the Details
CAD assembly models were detailed to implement fabrication of next gen Beta prototypes.
Updated CAD layouts documented the most promising configurations… Envisioned enclosure designs were sketched directly onto scaled three-axis layouts. Proportionally accurate perspective sketches were additionally prepared, overlaid upon mock-up study photos… all the while, as we considered overall product character, production methods, venting, assembly, cartridge loading, etc...
Design Verification
A volumetric appearance model was hand-fabricated to visualize and verify the evolved instrument design appearance, size, human factors, and user interface.
